The series was very eye-opening how prisons handle their inmates. The differences between the type of crimes and the punishments was astounding. I never knew or read how prisoners were handled. I was under the impression that redemption was the main priority with education being first in line. It really made me wonder how prisons, as a whole, across the world, handle problems as Mr Archer wrote in the books. My question- does any one come out of the prison system better than he went in, and is that the priority of the system, or is it just a holding system?I am glad that Jeffrey Archer has written these accounts and also his account. He did not do as he was punished for but the entire process that he had to incur was crazy. and luckily, he came out a better person.

Heaven A Prison Diary Volume 3 Jeffrey Archer 9780312354794 Books Reviews
We have read many books by bye This author makes you see that is a picture in your mind of what he experienced or is experiencing.
third and last of a series about an innocent man's time in prison, a man who was a well known public servant and still incarcerated. Fascinating in detail, and keeps you alert.. get the series.... good reading
I was fascinated by hearing my favorite author was in-prisoned, but was amazed at the injustice of the penal system. I was fascinated by all the inmates stories, and encouraged by loyalties of the prison mates he came to know. The drug problem seems to make sense now, in all countries experiencing violence. A good read, enlightening but horrific at "top brass" revenge tactics. I hope The Judge gets his just rewards.
I read all three books, love the author. I read most of his novels
One gets such a better idea of government systems, the way they work and how it appears not to be a good idea to think outside the square. Come to think of it it seems to me that the governments of world collaborated and created "THE SQUARE" outside which thou shalt not wander.
This third book in the series was cleverly not a repetition of the first two, but gave a better insight into what makes things tick. Sadly it did not restore my faith in the judicial system. To me justice remains an illusive reality. Laws appear to have two purposes 1. to make an attempt at organising society an 2. give governments a tool that makes things stick when they are not really there.
This book could probably be used by the British penal system to improve their system. In many ways the British penal system is quite humane and
logical. The author points out how many of the penal system officers behave in a very just way. He points out how many others are quite brutal and inhumane. The higher ups in the system do not behave so humanely. The "Home Office" is seen to pass down judgements that are not so just. Apparently the judges in his case were quite unjust. I would hope that the US penal system is better in this regard.
This and the other two volumes have been real eye openers with respect to the English prison system. I couldn't wait for Heaven because I knew it meant that at last Mr. Archer would be free. The book was very, very enlightening.
